233 Orange Street. Penthouse

Dear Prospective Buyers,

Ten years ago we moved into the Adams Point neighborhood as renters. We quickly fell in love with the area. We enjoyed walking around the lake and going to the Saturday farmer's market. When we were ready to become homeowners we started going to open houses in the area. We really wanted a Mid-Century house with an open floor plan. One Sunday we saw an open house sign for this penthouse. It was love at first sight. We have been here for over eight years and we still sit out on the deck at sunset.

Our home feels like a single family home. It's very private. It is just like a house-- you have no shared walls. But unlike a house you do not have your neighbor's kitchen window across from yours. Every window has a view!

Over the years we have updated our home. We've added new hardwood floors and updated the hall bathroom with a "Jacuzzi". But we also kept some of the original details. In the entrance room we refinished the hand-laid parquet floors. In the living room after we replaced the curtains with blinds and we decided to keep the window valance that runs along the room. It's made of beautiful old growth redwood and is the perfect place for a cat to sit and watch the birds. During the holidays we hang garland from it adding a very festive touch.

Over the years the neighborhood has changed. A Whole Foods opened five years ago, quickly becoming the neighborhood grocery store. We still go to the Saturday's farmers market but it is nice to be able to walk down the street if we need anything. The "Uptown" area has grown too. There are so many choices now when it comes to entertainment and eating out. Great coffee houses, bars and restaurants keep opening in the area. Within a ten minute walk you can go to Sweet Bar Bakery, grab a sandwich at Ike's Lair, enjoy a glass of wine at Plum Bar or even watch a movie at the New Parkway Theater. And then, of course, there is Lake Merritt with its beautiful makeover. It's always been nice living near the lake. But the new park on the south end makes it a wonderful place to hang out on a sunny afternoon.

I hope you enjoy living here as much as we did.
Kirsten and Ryan
